Solar energy is one of the best choices in the search for sustainable sources of energy. Sunlight is free, and using it does not produce emissions.

Photovoltaics experienced its first commercial development boom during the oil crisis of the 1970s. It is not yet economically viable today, but there is strong ecological motivation to use it. The field of photovoltaics has grown enormously over the past decade, recently with solar photovoltaic energy capacity almost doubling every two years.

Research and development have improved both cost and energy efficiencies. According to different estimates, roughly 7 - 15% of the world’s electricity needs could be met by solar panels by 2030.

Various incentive systems are used around the world to promote the deployment of solar energy. One example is the feed-in tariff policy, adopted by a few countries that allows consumers with solar panels to
sell the excess energy they produce.

Fighting climate change requires effort from all elements of society, as well as from governments and companies. KATKO has chosen to be in the frontline of this battle by introducing new DC switches for use with solar panels.

The new VKE switch for DC is available as 20A or 32A version, DC-22 up to 800V, withor without fuse protection, and either as a separate switch or enclosed in aluminium or polycarbonate.

The switch itself is compact in size and either DINrail or base mounted. Aluminium and PC enclosures are rated as IP66 and provide excellent protection in changing conditions.

They have a wide operating temperature range and good resistance against UV light and many chemicals.
